Kick Start

“The thing is… I’ll be fine if friendship is what’s best for us.”

“What if you could be better than fine, Kick?”

After my world imploded eight years ago, I fought my way out of the darkness—opened a popular coffeehouse, raised three amazing kids, fixed my health. But, the pains of the past still haunt me.

Then Professor Thomas Harrison walks into my café. He’s six feet of hotness and all kinds of chiseled grumpiness in a suit. When my business is vandalized, Thomas sticks around to give a statement and makes sure I’m safe. He floors me by asking real questions about my life and health, attributing it to his genetic research. Except no one does this. Ever.

Despite our scorching chemistry, I keep him at arm’s length. Thomas makes it clear he’s devoted to his work and something else. Something huge that he’s hiding. Between his mysterious calls and running off at a moment’s notice, it’s clear he has zero time for “extracurricular activities” too.

But also I have secrets and like that he’s not aware of the old me. I only know that when Thomas is around my world makes sense again. He might be the key to helping me start over, but first I have to confront my past.

Kick Back

“I need extraordinary, and I won’t settle.”

I feel like a new woman. An open book. It’s more than the encouraging test results, proving my body is on the mend. This sensation lives in every cell, every emotion, every new wish. My late husband is peacefully laid to rest in my heart, and I’m moving forward.

Thomas and I agree to take things slow despite my heart’s veto of the decree. It wants—no demands—more magical nights with my new delicious younger man. Except we both have responsibilities competing for our attention and interrupting our alone time.

Then there’s the harassment of my coffeehouse and my family. After a festive night out nearly turns tragic, Thomas’s care and vow of protection keep me from falling backward.

I never dared to dream of a second chance at love, though it looks like one found me. Still, his stubborn refusal to open up challenges the limits of my swoony affections. Thomas better come clean soon because I’m close to figuring out his big secret, anyway.

Kick Back is book two in the slow burn, steamy, seasoned Southern Oaks trilogy. Given the overarching plotline, it’s best enjoyed when read in order.

Kick Home

“No one’s ever chosen me.”

Kick McKenna. The vivacious woman who gave my dead heart a new life. Who discovered my deepest secret and stayed. Who’s forging a new beginning with me.

Our love intensified in a short time, but we both know forever isn’t guaranteed. After promising each other one day at a time, even this commitment is a gift I never would’ve asked for. And the nights? Kick is everything I crave. I’ll move any obstacle in her way. Be her white knight.

But decades ago, I pledged myself to the mysterious Felidae Society. It’s a vow I still hold sacred, one I hope doesn’t conflict with this promise to Kick. Fortunately, she turns out to be the lynchpin of my research that I desperately need.

As Kick’s empty nest days draw near, a vision of a future with her takes shape. I want more than a for-now commitment. I want it all. She’s my home.

Yet I’m not the only one to break their vows to my found family. This new betrayal could mean war, but no matter what, I will protect my lady.

Kick approached and placed her hand over my heart. “Remember our promises to each other at the oak tree?”

“No.” Of course I did, but this was different. My promises to keep Kick and her family safe came first.

“Yes, you do.” She went up on her tiptoes and kissed the underside of my jaw. It was this weird yet cute thing she did. Probably had to do with the way my jaw flexed when I stressed out. Like most things Kick did, I liked it. It settled me.
